Zongzi has a long history. It was originally used as a tribute to ancestors and gods. In ancient times, in order to commemorate Qu Yuan's patriotism, people threw rice into the river where Qu Yuan committed suicide with bamboo tubes.

 This is the most primitive form of Zongzi. Later, people slowly used leaves instead of bamboo tubes to pack rice, and scissors became zongzi today. 

Zongzi, as one of the traditional foods with the deepest historical and cultural accumulation in China, has spread far.
