afford常见的三大用法

1）afford 意为“买得起；承担得起”，通常物can,could,be able to连用，多用于否定句或疑问句中。常用搭配：afford to do sth.“负担得起做某事”；can't afford sth. “买不起某物”。例如：

I can't afford (to buy) a new coat.

我没钱买件新外衣。

He can't afford the time for it.

他抽不出时间来做此事。

He says he really can't afford to wait another day.

他说他确实一天也不能再等了。

（2）afford 还有“给予”之意，可接双宾语。afford sb./sth. “给某人/某物提供……”。若双宾语交换位置，要用介词 to（此时无需连用 can, be able to等）。例如：

My parents always afford me all the things they have.

我的父母给予了我他们所拥有的一切。

His visit affords us great pleasure.

His visit affords great pleasure to us.

他的来访给我们带来极大的快乐。
