alert是及物动词,提醒、警觉或戒备的内容常由介词to引出,提醒作为准备的内容则由介词for引出。

He had been spotted by an alert neighbour.

　　一个警觉的邻居发现了他。

　　 I was hoping he'd alert the police.

　　我当时希望他会报警。

 The baby is very mentally alert.

　　这孩子脑子很机灵。
