dinner和supper的区别

dinner和supper都可以意为“吃晚饭”，可以根据词义和用法区分。

　　1、词义不同。

　　dinner主要有两个意思：

　　(1)意为“正餐”，可以指中餐，也可以指晚餐。

　　(2)意为“晚宴”，主要指宴请某人或者举办正式活动。

　　supper指“晚饭”，以及睡觉前吃的“夜宵”，睡前小食等。

　　例如：She gives the children their supper, then puts them to bed. 她让孩子们吃了点夜宵，然后让他们上床睡觉。

　　2、用法不同。

　　dinner的用法。

　　(1)用作名词意思是“正餐”，指一日间的主餐，有时在中午进餐，有时在晚间进餐。

　　例如：The dinner we had was excellent. 我们吃的晚餐很丰盛。

　　(2)引申可作“宴会”解，通常指“大型宴会”，也可指“小型家宴”。多指为某人或某事举办的晚宴，属于社交聚会，较为正式。

　　例如：The Professional Cricketers 'Association held its annual dinner in London. 职业板球运动员协会在伦敦举办了自己的年度宴会。

　　(3)表示“餐名”， dinner可用作可数名词，也可用作不可数名词。

　　supper的用法。

　　(1)supper 多指家常的、非正式的晚饭，多用单数形式，一般不用冠词修饰。

　　例如：She would not like to leave the television even though her husband was waiting for her supper. 尽管她的丈夫在等她准备晚饭，她还是不愿意离开电视机。

　　(2)supper 固定用来指圣经中耶稣受难前的最后一次晚餐。

　　(3)supper有时可用不定冠词表示“某一顿晚餐”。
